Banco Santander will sponsor Female CONMEBOL Libertadores for the next three seasons

The sponsorship joins other initiatives to support the world of sport for its ability to positively impact people’s lives, such as CONMEBOL Libertadores, the UEFA Champions League and LaLiga Santander

Banco Santander will sponsor the most prestigious women’s competition in South America during the 2020, 2021 and 2022 editions, starting with the 2020 edition, which could not be played last year due to the pandemic, and which is currently being played in Argentina.

CONMEBOL Libertadores is the most important women’s football tournament on the continent. The sponsorship includes the main lines of action in this type of event, from brand positioning during match broadcasts to tickets and access to experiences for commercial use.

Santander, which already supported the women’s edition of this competition in 2010, is the oldest sponsor of CONMEBOL Libertadores, a tournament to which it has been associated for more than a decade.

Juan Emilio Roa, Commercial Director of CONMEBOL, expressed: “At CONMEBOL we feel very satisfied that a brand like Santander, which has given us its support during all these years, can join as a sponsor of CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina, a tournament that is gaining competitiveness and that generates increasing expectations in the continent. At CONMEBOL we believe in a football without gender, without exclusions; football is written with F for female, and with F for FUTURE “

Juan Manuel Cendoya, Vice President of Santander Spain and Head of Communication, Corporate Marketing and Group Studies, said: “We are very happy with this opportunity to be part of CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina, which advances in our commitment to equality and diversity and it raises the female category to the level of sponsorship of the men’s competition, to which we have been involved for 14 years and which demonstrates our important commitment to Latin America”.

The sponsorship is one more example of the entity’s commitment to sports and its ability to promote equal opportunities between men and women, as demonstrated by its International Women’s Soccer Scholarship Program. This program, currently in its third edition, is aimed at female football players from 15 different countries and provides them every year the opportunity to train to enjoy sports and academic scholarships at the best American universities.

Santander believes in the ability of football to positively impact people’s lives. This is the basis of the “FootballCan” strategy, which transfers the bank’s positioning to help people and companies to progress to the world of football. With these initiatives, Santander enhances the values ??of sport and helps create a more diverse, inclusive and fair society.

Santander maintains a firm commitment to gender equality in all the countries in which it operates, to promote, empower and promote female talent, with the aim of achieving effective equality; a commitment that places the entity among the 10 most advanced companies in the world in this area according to the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index 2021.
